Life has been going fast and furious but I’ve handled things well for the most part, I believe.

I had my colonoscopy – don’t ask.  Everything is fine although I do have a couple of questions for my doctor.  I go see her on the next month.  Questions for your are:

  • what is and ischemic event and what does it mean
  • will the diverticulosis pockets heal or are they there for good
  • how do you get the above
  • was it the prep solutions I used for the test that caused the period of very high blood pressure

That is what I can think of now.

I spent time with my aunt yesterday during an unexpected break from DS.  I had a wonderful time and am so glad I called her.  God told me too and it was the right thing.  God also told me to call Joyce after the meeting and I did and that was also the right thing.  She was real down when she first answered and was really up by the end

DS  is enjoying summer.  We have been very busy.  He has been continuing in tennis lessons and golf lessons.  His friend doesn’t want to continue which is too bad but we will on tennis for sure and probably the next set of golf lessons.  I feel that DS will then be prepared to play a bit with dad, Matt and Jim.  I hope playing on the course at Grand Court comes to fruition.  I need to pursue that with Terri, although she is so busy with her father right now.

We went to see UP! twice and Night at the Museum once.  Loved them both.  DS  saw previews for a lot of movies he wants to see.

DS played with Evan yesterday and now that I know they live so close, we will do that again.

We are going to sell the Datsun (1969 Roadster, 32,000 miles).  If it sells, that will go toward debt reduction.  I want to look at a Mustang for me with the thought that it would go to DS in five years.  DH wants to do a Acura TL, which would be nice but the money worries me.  I haven’t priced a Mustang though so I should do that before I do anything else.

Lots to do so I best go

So the Strattera worked for me some but not spectacularly.  I am now trying Vyvanse and as warned, my blood pressure is going up.  I had gotten it to go down to a pre hypertension level with Vitamin D.  I had my colonoscopy on Friday and the stuff I took had gobs of sodium in it and my BP was way high.  I couldn’t be on Vitamin D for the four days before the procedure and then on Monday I started the Vyvanse.  My last reading was 160/90!!!  I am goin to go down and get on the bike to do some cardio and then retake it.  I feel sleepy even though I slept last night.

I took some notes on calcium citrate & magnesium and they are as follows:

Take one citracal one time @ bedtime.  I need 1200 mg a day.  Calcium citrate is supposed to make you sleepy.  I’ll take one in the a.m.  I will eat yogurt and drink milk to get calcium in that way.

1 Citracel = 400 mg

Taking magnesium with calcium helps avoid constipation.  If I do get constipated I should take a stool softner.

Calcium with Vitamin D is a must for absorbtion.  Citracal has Vitamin D in it

  • QUICKLY DEAL WITH THE SIN YOU SEE IN YOUR LIFE – Jay Adams offers sage wisdom about not harboring sin in your heart. Sadly, I have seen the effects of what happens when I as a believer allow sin to creep in and claim and control portions of my life… particularly in my thoughts.
  • Reading Psalm 51 is always one of the first places I go when I need to confess sin– ESPECIALLY when I don’t feel like it, when I’d rather just maintain the status-quo. “Have mercy”… “wash me thoroughly”… “against You have I sinned”… “purge me”… “blot out”… “create”, “renew”, “restore”, “uphold”, “deliver”. I love Psalm 51’s honesty about sin and its target of renewal and restoration… as the living and active Word of God, when I read it and use it as a prayer to the LORD, it somehow works in me to bring about a right attitude even when I start out with a rebellious, self-focused desire to stay the same.
  • PRESCRIPTION FOR CONTENTMENT: “*Never allow yourself to complain about anything – not even the weather. *Never picture yourself in any other circumstances or someplace else. *Never compare your lot with another’s. *Never allow yourself to wish this or that had been otherwise. *Never dwell on tomorrow – remember that [tomorrow] is God’s, not ours.” Good advice. And it’s now up on my fridge, cause I need to read it again and again. 🙂
  • See post hereThis was a great post for me to read.  I am always seeking balance in my life and reading about contentment is a good piece to add to my teeter totter.

    Insulin Resistant May 14, 2009

I found out a few weeks ago that I am definitely insulin resistant.  My doctor has scheduled me for a class in June to learn some about it.  I went to the bookstore and found a book by Cherye R. Hart, M.D. and Mary Kay Grossman, R.D. called The Insulin-Resistance Diet.  I have skimmed it once an have read about half of it.  I marked some pages that contained information that I felt was important for me to remember.  What follows is what that information is:

High insulin levels mean more body fat, while low insul levels mean less body fat.

People have different baseline levels of insulin because of individual genetice makeup.  The more overweight you are, the more resistant to insulin you tend to become.

Information from page 7 of the book about Hypoglycemia explains to me that I have been tending to insulin resistance my whole life.  I used to feel this way way back when I was a thin teenager with a great figure.  That was before I started drinking Diet Coke/Pepsi/Rite but that is further down the line in this synopsis.

Factors that make Insulin Resistance worse include some high BP meds, synthetic progesterone only birth control pills and implants (I was on the pill or had Norplant for HOW MANY years?!)

Glucosamine supplements which are recommended to help with arthritis can affect insulin resistance because it is a type of sugar.

Caffeine, artificial sweetners and nicotine can increase insulin.  With the sweetners it “sends a confusing signal to the body” causing insulin levels to increase resulting in low blood sugar levels and hunger if not used with food (and I’m sure it means properly balanced food).

My strattera is no longer working.  I have found myself back with the swirling thoughts, been terribly forgetful, been agitated and caught in that I don’t know what to do now mode.  I have an appointment with my doctor in two weeks (I think).  In the meantime I am going to walk on my treadmill or ride the bike daily as well as do at least one exercise video from SparkPeople each day.  I will continue to take my Vitame D, which has helped my blood pressure as well as the calcium and the Omega 3 capsules.  I am going to research the info I found on If you crave chocolate you need magnesium (raw nuts, fruits and legumes) and if I crave sweets I need chromium (broccoli and grapes), carbon (fresh fruit) phosphorus (eggs and grain) sulfur (kale cabbage and cruciferous vegetables) tryptophan (raisins and sweet potatoes).

I am also going to get back to the Bible and to my relationship with God.  I am completely out of balance.

This is supposed to be good for you.  I remember reading in books of old about taking cod liver oil.  I had no clue what it was or why they took it, but according to Nourishing Traditions, it is good for you.  I will investigate this.

    April 6

    Psalm 40:1
I waited patiently for the Lord; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry.

Leah was not the kind of woman to just make excuses. When she said that God would help her when she was ready to let Him, she wasn’t just copping out. A day came when Leah really needed and wanted to lose weight, and she did it. Though it was hard, Leah stuck to her diet, and she gave most of the credit to God. She had lived for years wishing that she could be thin. Only after trying and failing many times was she able to succeed. Waiting on the Lord can be tiring and defeating. However, no one knows us like God does, and if we can wait, He will always do what is best for us.

Today’s thought: Our best effort will always include God.
