Tyler’s Wedding May 22, 2008

Tyler gets married on Sunday.  His mom just called me to tell me the song she picked for her dance with him.  It is Gladys Knights “You’re the Best Thing That Ever Happened to Me”.  I know I’m going to cry.  I don’t know how she is going to get through it.  I hope she does because she wants to be dignified.  Gotta pray, gotta pray alot about this.

She decided she couldn’t dance to that song so she chose Louie Armstrong’s “What a Wonderful World”

So the wedding was on May 25th.  It was wonderful.  It was very  much a “them” wedding.  He walked in to a drum solo (he plays the drums), she was radiantly beautiful in the prettiest gown I’ve ever seen, I will always appreciate her mother holding my sister’s hand as they walked up to place the sand on the altar, they did a combining of sand as a symbol of their combined lives which will be something they can keep forever.  I’ll never forget the look on her face as she saw the wedding ring for the first time; to say she was blown away would be an understatement.  I was so happy for Tyler.  I have never seen a more excited groom.  The pastor did a beautiful job explaining the marriage covenant–very Catholic for me which was nice.  Before the pastor let the wedding begin he had Tyler declare to us all that he was accepting responsibility for the care and keeping of his bride.  The bride and groom wrote their own vows which were deeply personal.  I want my sons to have their brides look at them like she looks at Tyler.  I could go on and on and will probably add to this entry.  It was a beautiful, Godly evening.

They are supposed to be back tonight but they chose to vacation on the eastern sie of Mexico – Hurricane Arthur area.  All we know is the plane is delayed (no kidding).  Praying for Pam and them.

Todays meeting went okay, a lot of folks were missing and I think the way I’m shaking up the agenda has some people confused.  I had a program prepared but something didn’t feel right about it so I did some question/answer discussion type questions that went okay.  I hope someone got something out of it.  In June, we are going to meet at the arboretum on the day that the church has VBS.  We will eat a sack lunch and then walk and talk.  It should be nice.

Okay, I spent out of pocket $43.13 but I saved $29.10 in coupons and ECB’s and I earned $18.97 in ECB’s that I can use for my next trip.  I’m still not a supersaver but I am a saver.  I also got my Father’s Day cards and a wedding card purchased in advance which I am so so so bad about.

I’m not thrilled about the money spent but I am satisfied because I got things we needed and will use.

I have given my 9 year old son a small drawer in the kitchen to keep his “stuff”.  He keeps his wallet in there, his savings book, his sunglasses, small rubber balls, bubbles, thing to blow up balls when they get low on air, water balloons and an assortment of other goodies.  The drawer is right by the door to the garage so he can grab what he needs when we leave and drop off whatever was in his hands in the moments before departure.  He always knows where his stuff is, it keeps him organized, makes him feel important and keeps us moving on time.  It worksforme!

Praying with Rob May 20, 2008

My dear son has several phobias including a bad one about flying insects.  He is ever vigilant, sees the everywhere and it is quite draining to be outside with him.  He is a boy who loves to play so his desire to be outside and be normal and his fears are in constant conflict.  Today as we walked home from school and we approached our front door where there may or may not be a wasp or a bee, he asked me to say a prayer please.  That was music to my heart because I have been praying aloud to him whenever he encounters an uncomfortable situation.  My goal is that he will realize he has the power to pray about it himself.  I see now that he has taken the first step towards that in requesting that he be prayed for.  God is good.

Peace

Rob and I have needed to go to reconciliation for the past two weeks but have been out of town both days it is held.  I found another church that has it on Thursday evenings so we may go then.  We will be in town this Saturday so that would work too.  We both miss receiving the Eucharist but I want to be consistent in teaching him early on that we don’t receive unless we can go with a clear heart.  I can tell that it bothers him to not receive so I know I’m doing the right thing.

At mass on Sunday, he drew a picture for DH and I of God’s House along with the sun, clouds, flowers etc.  and wrote “Thank God for all the creations he made for us.”  So sweet, he’s a keeper and so is the drawing.

Peace.

Money is really going to be tight the next couple of months.  We’ve had graduations, birthdays, weddings plus we are going to have pay for all of our insurance again for the next couple of months – bummer.  So I am going to use up what we have in the kitchen pantry, freezer, fridge and cupboards.  We’ve done it before and it is actually kind of fun to see what I can come up with.  As long as I make some sweets or breads DH and DS probably won’t even notice.  They never seemed to notice before they just sit and eat.  Good guys.
